TEDŌ

TEDŌ is a contemporary gallery bridging traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern art spaces. During my internship at SU—F Studio, I had the opportunity to craft this meaningful project as my final assignment, developing a brand identity that connects heritage with innovation.

TEDŌ (手道) roughly translates to "way of the hands," reflecting the gallery's mission to honor craftsmanship. This connection between tradition and contemporary expression formed the foundation of our design approach.

For our primary proposal, we developed a wordmark subtly referencing Japanese calligraphy through varying stroke widths, echoing the rhythmic pressures and fluid movements in traditional brush writing. Rather than anchoring in the past, we envisioned an identity that feels alive and evolving.

A pivotal element emerged from the "ō" in TEDŌ. In Japanese culture, circles embody harmony and wholeness. This inspired us to create a dynamic visual system where overlapping circles form contemporary compositions for artwork display. These flowing, multiplied motifs demonstrate how tradition breathes and evolves while preserving its essential spirit.
